FAQ

Welcome to Tyr!
Below you’ll find answers to a variety of common new-player questions, in no particular order.
If you still have questions after reading, come talk to us on Discord!
How Do My Friends and I Get Access to Tyr?
Join the Discord server and ask for an invite — it’s that simple.
Players who have already been accepted into playtesting receive invite codes that they can share with others at their discretion. In most cases, players who ask for an invite on Discord receive one from another community member within the hour.
Alternatively, you can request access through Steam. However, Steam access invites are distributed randomly at regular intervals.
When Can I Play Tyr?
Tyr is currently in a playtesting period. Standard and Ranked matchmaking queues are only available during scheduled playtest windows; typically for a few hours on select weekends each month.
These playtest times are regularly announced and discussed on:
- Steam
- Discord
- YouTube
Sandbox Mode
Outside of scheduled matchmaking periods, players can still access the Sandbox at any time.
The Sandbox allows players to:
- Drive any tank, including tanks they haven’t unlocked
- Practice movement and controls
- Test weapons against stationary targets
How Matches Work in Tyr
In both Standard and Ranked matches, two teams of 8 players battle on opposite sides of a randomly selected map. Players may choose any tank they have unlocked, regardless of team composition.
Match Objectives
A match can last up to 10 minutes and ends immediately when either of the following conditions is met:
- All tanks on one team are eliminated
- A team fully captures the enemy base
Lives
Each player has one life per match. Once destroyed, they are out for the remainder of the game.
Base Capturing
Bases are captured gradually by percentage:
- Standing inside the enemy base captures it at 1% per second
- Up to 3 tanks from the same team can contribute to capture progress simultaneously
Overtime Victory Conditions
If the timer expires before either team is eliminated or a base is fully captured, the winner is determined using the following tiebreakers, in order:
- Highest base capture percentage
- Most tanks remaining alive
- Highest total remaining HP across surviving tanks
Can I Leave a Match After Being Eliminated?
Yes. Once you’ve been eliminated, there is no penalty for leaving the match before it ends.
After being destroyed, you may either:
- Spectate the match from the perspective of any surviving teammate
- Leave the match immediately
If you choose to leave early, you can queue for another match right away with no penalties. Any rewards earned from the completed match will still be granted once that match concludes.
How Does Player Progression Work?
Currently, match rewards can only be earned during the limited playtesting periods when Standard and Ranked queues are available.
By completing matches, players earn:
- XP
- SLVR
Both rewards are based on match performance.
XP
XP contributes toward:
- Leveling up the tank you played
- Advancing your overall unlock progression
By default, tanks unlock in the order shown in-game. However, players may spend SLVR to unlock available tanks earlier if they choose.
SLVR
SLVR is also used to purchase non-default:
- Components
- Shell Types
These upgrades allow players to customize each tank’s loadout.
Because of this, many experienced players recommend saving SLVR early on rather than immediately unlocking new tanks, at least until you better understand which playstyles and loadouts you prefer.
How Do I Play With My Friends?
Create a Squad in-game and share the join code with your friends.
Players in the same Squad will always be placed into the same match and on the same team.
Squad Size
Squads are currently limited to 3 total players, primarily for balance reasons. However, the developers intend to increase the squad size limit to at least 4 players in the future.
How Do I Save Replays of My Matches?
To save match replays, you first need to enable Replays in the game settings.
Enabling Replays
- Open Settings
- Go to the Game tab
- Enable Replays
Once enabled, replay files will automatically be saved on your PC at:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Tyr\Saved\Demos
Watching Replays
Saved replays can be viewed at any time from the Battles tab in the main menu.
Replay Storage Limits
Tyr only keeps the 10 most recent matches you have played. Older replay files are automatically overwritten as new matches are completed.
If you want to keep a replay permanently, you will need to manually copy the replay file to another location on your PC.
